Motivo & the American Counseling Association (ACA) Partner for Online Clinical Supervision

American Counseling Association ACA Motivo online supervision

The first HIPAA-compliant platform providing clinical supervision through secure video conferencing has teamed up with the world’s largest non-profit counseling association to make the path to licensure easier for professional counselors.

MAY 16, 2019 (ATLANTA) — Motivo, the first platform for online clinical supervision, is proud to announce its partnership with the American Counseling Association (ACA). By partnering with Motivo, a HIPAA-compliant network for connecting therapists to clinical supervisors for live video supervision, ACA members seeking licensure can find a supervisor and receive a discount on their first three sessions of supervision.

“Fulfilling compulsory licensing requirements is critical to our members’ long-term professional success,” said ACA’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Yep. “We are excited that the solutions provided through Motivo deliver enhanced access to clinical supervisors—while also easing some of the pain points that can occur along the path to licensure.”

All pre-licensed counselors have mandatory supervision hours they need to complete for licensure, and a crucial part of that process is having the right supervisor. Often, professional counselors only have access to a very limited pool of supervisors to choose from, many of whom are not always the right fit, or they have to drive long distances to meet in-person.

With the rise of telehealth, many states now allow clinical supervision hours to be obtained online through live video conference. That’s why Rachel McCrickard, a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), created Motivo, the first online platform connecting mental health therapists to clinical supervisors as an easier and more efficient path toward licensure.

“Obtaining licensure as a professional counselor is extremely challenging,” McCrickard said. “During the licensure process, it’s easy to get into a mindset that’s less about deepening your clinical skills and more about finding the easiest ways to check all of the boxes.”

“At Motivo, we believe that things should be different. We believe that clinical supervision is foundational to the development of a new clinician, which is why we want to give new professionals the opportunity to select a supervisor based on fit, rather than cost or proximity.”

Professional counselors seeking licensure start by searching for a licensed supervisor in their state then can filter by specialties such as addiction, eating disorders, faith-based counseling, and nearly 100 areas of focus for their practice. Supervisees are also eligible for a 25% discount on their first three sessions if they are ACA members.

Motivo’s secure platform is both secure and easy to use. Qualified supervisors who want to facilitate online supervision can sign up for Motivo to have all their billing and record-keeping handled by the platform. Both counselors seeking licensure and licensed supervisors can start the onboarding process with Motivo here. For more information, reach out to the team of “Motivators” at hello@wearemotivo.com.
