I chose a career in this field because I had to. I found myself turning towards the suffering to help so often that if this wasn't my job, I would be starving on the street somewhere.

I supervise because early in my career, I realized the importance of professional support, or rather, how destructive the lack of it is. In mental health, they throw you unceremoniously in the deep end without much preamble. Providing supervision is not only my way of addressing this but a way of supporting those other people who have, as I have, chosen to do a thankless but important job.

My hope for new professionals can best be explained by one of my favorite quotes: "It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.
