Making the most of your supervisor profile

As a supervisor, your profile is your way of letting potential supervisees and mental health organizations know about your experience and how you can help them. Follow these tips to maximize your profile and opportunities to supervise with Motivo!

Upload a high-quality profile picture

One of the easiest ways to engage potential supervisees is by using a warm and professional profile picture. We have noticed a consistent trend - supervisors with professional and engaging profile pictures are the ones who get selected the most.

Resist the urge to take a selfie or apply filters. Avoid car selfies, casual attire, filters, dim lighting, busy backgrounds, and close-ups. High quality and warmth are essential.

List your specialties

We recommend adding your key specialties to your Motivo profile (4-6 specialties seem to be the sweet spot). We offer over 150 specialties to choose from, and we're continually adding new ones (feel free to reach out to us if you see one we've missed!).

Remember that modalities matters

Most clients aren't familiar with terms like Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), or Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Therefore, adding a lot of clinical jargon to your own client-facing website often leads to confusion.

Your supervisor profile is different. Potential supervisees would appreciate seeing the modalities you use in your therapy or supervision approach. Additionally, this provides prospective supervisees with insight into your education and training, helping them determine which modalities you can teach them.

Write a great bio

What resonates with therapy clients is different than the information supervisees need to know, so resist the urge to use your client-facing bio for your Motivo profile.

Here are a few questions to consider when crafting your supervisor bio:

  • What motivated you to choose a career as a therapist?
  • Why did you decide to become a supervisor?
  • What's your approach to supervision?
  • What might a typical supervision session with you look like?
  • What are your hopes for the next generation of therapists?

We hope this gets the wheels turning on how you can make the most of your supervisor profile on Motivo. If we can help in any way, don't hesitate to give us a shout at community@motivohealth.com.
